Earth911 works to keep our recycling database up-to-date, but with the frequent changes in recycling rules after the Chinese waste import ban, those changes come faster.
Today, we are updating the Earth911 database to reflect major changes at Best Buy, which no longer accepts:
- Books/T-shirts
- CD/DVD storage towers
- CDs/DVDs/Blu-ray/HD DVDs
- Tapes/records/8-track tapes/VHS tapes
Additionally, Amazon-owned Whole Foods no longer accepts batteries of all types.
Did You Know You Can Help?
More than 2,500 volunteers help maintain the Earth911 database and it’s easy to join the project. If you operate a recycling program, whether private or municipal, our tools will let you quickly add your listing and choose the materials you accept. The benefit is that your work at the front of the line for Earth911 review. Typically, volunteer entries are updated and published within a day (we’ve made a lot of progress since February, when the database updates were backlogged by many months). Just visit this page to get started!
As an added incentive, add 100 locations to the database in September and you will receive a free Earth911.com T-shirt.
